Help with Acne » The Candida Diet. Hello,if anyone has any tried and true tips for acne I’d be so grateful! Mine is pretty bad, though considerably better than earlier this year, when my Candida was horrible after 6 months as a vegan raw foodist. As of now,I use sulfur soap, then a volcanic ash and charcoal face mask, then another mask I make out of avocado,Greek yogurt, ground flax seed and sometimes turmeric. Sometimes I use honey as a exfoliant and leave it on my face for a while. I use a distilled water and lavender oil toner I make myself, and coconut oil for moisturizer. Overnight I topically apply vitamin E oil. I have really sensitive skin, and also oily prone. Perhaps I should not be using coconut oil! Ironically enough I have used a lot of benzol peroxide in the past. I just threw away my tube about a month ago, trying to cure acne as naturally as possible. My skin has definitely calmed down overnight just by using Dr. Bronner’s lavender liquid soap instead of my old sulfur bar. It takes a while for them to go away, it took me like 4 months or something but mine were severe. After a month your face will go really dry and you will start getting nosebleeds sometimes. I would research it first though and look at all the side effects. But for me it worked great, the only thing was that it took a while for them to go. I would really strongly recommend you trying Roaccutane if ur acne is bothering you and since you’ve had them for over 2 years. It also gets rid of most of the scars. Massive decrease in gym performance. Severe muscle loss. All of these criticisms result from a failure to heed the caveat above: Ketogenic Diets must be done right. It must be realised that they are an entirely unique metabolic modality that adheres to none of the previously accepted ? Let’s take a quick look at how they work. Overview of Ketosis. Simply put our body, organs, muscles and brain can use either glucose or ketones for fuel. It is the function of the liver and pancreas (primarily) to regulate that fuel supply and they show a strong bias toward sticking with glucose. Glucose is the . The liver synthesises them only under duress; as a last measure in conditions of severe glucose deprivation like starvation. For the liver to be convinced that ketones are the order of the day, several conditions must be met: Blood glucose must fall below 5. Low blood glucose must result in low Insulin and elevated Glucagon. Liver glycogen must be low or ’empty’A plentiful supply of gluconeogenic substrates (carbs and their breakdown products) must NOT be available. This graphic from from Bodybuilding. At this point it is important to mention that it is not actually a question of being . We consider ourselves in ketosis when there are greater concentrations of ketones than glucose in the blood. The reality is that most people – especially weight trainers – have had a regular intake of glucose for a good couple of decades, at least. The liver is perfectly capable of producing ketones but the highly efficient gluconeogenic pathways are able to maintain low- normal blood glucose above the ketogenic threshold. Couple this with the fact that many people are at least partially insulin resistant and have elevated fasting insulin (upper end of the normal range, anyway). The small amount of blood glucose from gluconeogenesis induces sufficient insulin release to blunt glucagon output and the production of ketones. Sudden glucose deprivation will have the consequence, initially, of lethargy, hunger, weakness etc in most people – until ketosis is achieved. And Ketosis will not be reached until the liver is forced to quit with gluconeogenesis and start producing ketones. As long as dietary protein is sufficient then the liver will continue to produce glucose and not ketones. That’s why no carb, high protein diets are not ketogenic. What’s so great about ketosis anyway? When the body switches over to running primarily on ketones a number of very cool things happen: Lipolysis (body fat breakdown) is substantially increased. Muscle catabolism (muscle loss) is substantially reduced. Energy levels are maintained in a high and stable state. Subcutaneous fluid (aka . As such, we aren’t breaking down muscle to provide glucose. That is, muscle is being spared because it has nothing to offer; fat is all the body needs (well, to a large extent). For the dieter this means substantially less muscle loss than what is achievable on any other diet. Make sense? As a bonus, ketones yield only 7 calories per gram. This is higher than the equal mass of glucose but substantially less (2. We like metabolic inefficiencies like this. They mean we can eat more but the body doesn’t get the calories. What’s even cooler is that ketones cannot be turned back into fatty acids — the body excretes any excess in your urine! Speaking of which, there will be quite a bit of urine; the drop in muscle glycogen, low Insulin and low aldosterone all equate to massive excretion of intra and extracellular fluid. For us that means hard, defined muscularity and quick, visible results. Case in point: my sister, who got serious about her nutrition last year. She was 3. 8 pounds overweight before turning to keto. After 2. 4 weeks of ketogenic diet (and lots of exercise), she started to see abs for the first time in her life. But the benefits of keto go far beyond physique. We get tons of mental benefits, as well. Regarding energy, our brain REALLY likes ketones so we tend to feel fantastic in ketosis – clear headed, alert and positive. And because there is never a shortage of fat to supply ketones, energy is high all the time. Usually you even sleep less and wake feeling more refreshed when in ketosis. Doing it Right. From what’s said above you will realise that to get into ketosis: Carbohydrate intake should be nil — zero! Protein intake should be low – 2. Fat must account for 7. With low insulin (due to zero carbs) and calories at, or below maintenance, the dietary fat cannot be deposited in adipose tissues. The low- ish protein means that gluconeogenesis will quickly prove inadequate to maintain blood glucose and, whether the body likes it or not, there is still all the damned fat to burn. And burn it does. The high dietary fat is oxidised for cellular energy in the normal fashion but winds up generating quantities of Acetyl- Co. A that exceed the capacity of the TCA cycle. The significant result is ketogenesis – synthesis of ketones from the excess Acetyl- Co. A. In basic English: the high fat intake ”forces” ketosis upon the body. This is how it’s done right. Now you just have to throw out what you thought was true about fats. Saturated fats make ketosis fly. And don’t worry — your heart will be better than fine and your insulin sensitivity will NOT be reduced (there is no insulin around in the first place). Once in ketosis, it’s not necessary, technically speaking, to maintain absolute zero carbs or low protein. But it’s still better to keep it as low as possible you want to reap the greatest rewards. Besides, assuming you are training hard, you will still want to follow a cyclic ketogenic diet where you get to eat all your carbs, fruit and whatever else, every 1- 2 weeks, anyway (more on this in another article). Don’t be mistaken; . Others, like beta- hydroxymethylbutyrate, fall under the umbrella of “exogenous ketones“. These are essentially ketone bodies in powder form. Personally, I like to go all natural baby. No supplements necessary. However, I recognize that getting into ketosis is a real pain. As such, I’ve put together this list of stuff that can ease the transition. Here is an overview of my top 7 keto supplements: Let’s take a closer look at each one. Alpha Lipoic Acid (r- ALA) and Chromium. While not insulin . Creatine. Though popular, creatine is a bit of a waste. At most, 3. 0% can be taken up by the muscles that, without glycogen, cannot be meaningfully . Nevertheless, there’s a ton of research showing that creatine improves athletic performance (about 5- 1. Always buy creatine monohydrate and always buy it from a trusted vendor. I personally take this creatine brand, which is cheap, pure, and gets the job done. Hydroxymethylbutyrate (HMB)HMB is a BHB Salt, a popular type of keto supplement in recent months. It would/should be an excellent supplement for minimising the catabolic period before ketosis is achieved (if it works — the science is out on that). HMB (and BHB) are both exogenous ketones. When you’re actually in ketosis, levels of BHB are raised in your blood and urine — a good sign if you’re a ketogenic dieter. The idea behind taking BHB salts is that you’re artificially providing ketone fuel before your body’s natural production kicks in, thus easing the transition from carbs to no- carbs. Check out Keto. Cana from Prototype Nutrition for a great source of HMB. It’s by Patrick Arnold, the long time evangelist of the ketogenic diet and its benefits. Tribulus. Marketed as a testosterone booster, Tribulus is an excellent supplement to the ketogenic diet. Many keto dieters highly recommend Tribulus, saying that it magnifies the testosterone increase of ketosis. Note: Tribulus seems to work really well for some guys (and gals), or not at all. YMMV. There’s a lot of Tribulus brands out there; I take this Tribulus powder. Carnitine (in L or Acetyl- L form)Acetyl L- Carnitine is an almost essential supplement for ketogenic dieters. It’s been a popular energy- booster since the 1. L- Carnitine is necessary for the formation of ketones in the liver. Which means, as your metabolism shifts from glucose/glycogen to ketones, ALCAR should help facilitate the transition. I take this L- Carnitine supplement, which seems to have an added metabolism boosting effect. Glutamine. In their free form, branched chain amino acids (BCAAs) are worthwhile for pre and post training. Just don’t overdo the glutamine as it supports gluconeogenesis. Intermittent fasting legend Martin Berkhan recommends to his clients to take 1. BCAAs prior to fasted training. If you’re super strict about sticking to keto, 3- 5g of BCAAs will do the trick. You’ll be able to hit your lifts and not worry about breaking out of ketosis. This is my preferred Glutamine supplement will serve as your partner in getting that desired physique form in no time. ECA stack (ephedrine, caffeine, and aspirin)ECA fat burners are very useful and important though don’t worry about the inclusion of HCA. Like creatine, they’re not essential. However, the ECA stack is a proven energy booster and can help ease the transition into ketosis. Honorable mentions. Flaxseed oil is a great but do not think that you need 5. Whey Protein is optional. Protein is good, but remember — your main source of energy will be ketones, so your diet should be mostly fat. Cambridge Diet Review: Does it Work? What is it? Today, it affects as many as 1/3 of Americans and is the leading form of liver disease in the United States. According to Dr. Michael Curry, a hepatologist at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, about 8. In the other 2. 0%, the condition will progress to non alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and about 2. NASH patients will progress to liver cirrhosis and end stage liver disease. Recent reports out of England, Malaysia, and other countries show similar signs that fatty liver could quickly become a worldwide epidemic. Let’s take a closer look at the disease. What is non alcoholic fatty liver disease? Doctors and medical professionals once believed fatty infiltration of the liver leading to liver damage and liver cirrhosis was caused by excessive alcohol consumption. They termed this condition alcoholic fatty liver disease. While it’s true excessive alcohol consumption CAN and DOES cause liver damage, doctors soon realized there was something else going on when they started seeing patients with the same signs of liver damage, but who had no history of alcoholism. This condition soon became known as non alcoholic fatty liver disease. Put simply, non alcoholic fatty liver disease is the accumulation of fat (triglycerides) in liver cells due to non- alcohol related causes that can eventually lead to liver inflammation, liver scarring, liver cancer, complete liver failure, and death. Some of the contributing factors to fatty liver disease include obesity, type II diabetes (diabetes mellitus), metabolic syndrome, high fat, high fructose, and high glycemic diets coupled with a sedentary lifestyle, hypertension (high blood pressure), high cholesterol, medications and toxins, and insulin resistance. Non alcoholic fatty liver disease generally progresses through the following stages: Simple steatosis (fatty liver)Fatty liver with inflammation (non alcoholic steatohepatitis, NASH)Fatty liver with liver hardening and liver scarring (liver cirrhosis)Liver cancer and/or complete liver failure. Death unless a liver transplant is performed. When too much fat accumulates in the liver, it clogs the spaces surrounding hepatocytes (liver cells), causes the liver to become larger and heavier, impairs the livers ability to filter toxins and other harmful substances from the blood, and reduces its ability to metabolize fats. The earliest stage of fatty liver disease, simple steatosis, is usually easily reversed by dietary and lifestyle changes. However, as liver damage becomes more severe, it can lead to cell death and scarring (liver cirrhosis), at which point it often becomes irreversible and requires a liver transplant to save the life of the patient. Why is non alcoholic fatty liver disease so dangerous? Fatty liver disease is closely associated with obesity and according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, two- thirds of Americans are either overweight or obese. This means it’s a very real threat for almost everyone. The disease is so dangerous because it is what the National Institutes of Health refers to as a “silent disease”. Non alcoholic fatty liver disease develops over a long period of time, but many people experience few, if any, symptoms until the condition worsens to non alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) or cirrhosis. Some people may experience a dull or aching pain on the right side of their abdomen, but most don’t. This pain is generally associated with the liver growing larger due to inflammation and stretching the lining of the liver or pressing against other organs. Other fatty liver symptoms include a swollen stomach or ankles, vomiting blood, general fatigue, nausea, loss of appetite, and jaundice. Since the condition has few symptoms, it sneaks up on you and many people fail to seek fatty liver disease treatment early on when the condition is often reversible through a proper fatty liver diet and exercise. The Fatty Liver Diet Guide can show you exactly which foods to eat and which to avoid if you have a fatty liver and provides precise fatty liver diet plans and even fatty liver diet recipes for those who want to be proactive at slowing and reversing the condition before it becomes untreatable. To make matters worse, doctors can easily miss the disease even with the help of ultrasounds and CT scans, and even tests for elevated liver enzymes in the bloodstream aren’t 1. Many times the disease is first noticed during routine checkups or during blood tests for other conditions. A liver biopsy is the best way to get a definitive diagnosis. Annual checkups with your doctor are important to help increase the chance a fatty liver is caught early. If left untreated, NAFLD can bring about much more severe symptoms including brain changes (hepatic encephalopathy) that result from harmful toxins reaching the brain. A healthy liver filters these toxins from the blood so they never reach the brain. A damaged liver is unable to do so which can result in things like memory lapses, trouble sleeping, lack of coordination and balance, and damage to other organs of the body. These more severe fatty liver disease symptoms can often be rather alarming. For example, hepatologists such as Dr. Kevin Mullen from the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and Dr. Fatty liver treatment is a topic of much controversy. Although it is commonly accepted there is no “cure” for fatty liver disease, medical experts agree the. Fatty Liver Diet Recipes. Looking for some fatty liver diet recipes? Failing to do so is a true death sentence. Who is at risk of getting non alcoholic fatty liver disease? The short answer to this question is: everyone. Fatty liver disease can affect men, women, and children of all ages and nationalities. It is most commonly found in people who suffer from type II diabetes and those who are overweight and/or obese (particularly around the mid section). A recent study out of England suggests as many as 5. A poor diet coupled with a lack of exercise are the leading culprits. Some experts believe non alcoholic fatty liver disease will become a silent killer for this generation of children if the obesity epidemic is not kept under control. Most experts also agree that the biggest risk factor to developing non alcoholic fatty liver disease is being overweight. This is true for both children and adults. How to treat non alcoholic fatty liver disease. Currently there is no single fatty liver treatment for ridding the body of non alcoholic fatty liver disease. However, if you suffer from a fatty liver or feel you are at risk of developing fatty liver disease, then here are a few guidelines you should follow to help prevent and reverse the condition: Lose weight gradually and keep it off long- term. Stay away from fad diet programs that recommend starvation diets or extreme gastric bypass surgeries that can actually further exasperate a fatty liver. Instead, try programs like Fat Loss Factor and Paleo Burn to target fat in your mid section. Stay active and exercise at least 3. Recent studies show resistance exercises can help improve a fatty liver and may be easier for people who are overweight and/or obese because they put less demand on the cardio- respiratory system. Make dietary changes that limit fat consumption to less than 3. Be cautious of generalized diet advice such as “eat more fruits and vegetables” as some fruits (particularly those containing large amounts of fructose) can be harmful for people with non alcoholic fatty liver disease. See the Fatty Liver Diet Guide and Fatty Liver Bible for specific diet plans and foods that can be used to reduce liver fat and improve fatty liver disease. Smaller, frequent meals are often better than large feasts for fatty liver patients. Antioxidants such as silymarin (found in milk thistle) and vitamins C and E can help improve liver health when taken in the right ratios and dosages. Don’t miss annual health checkups and stay in touch with your doctor on a regular basis. Hello, I have fatty liver and diabetes. I noticed the supplements you have suggested and I have a question. Most importantly, if you’re overweight chances are you already have a fatty liver or will develop a fatty liver in the near future. Be proactive in treating non alcoholic fatty liver disease early on and don’t wait for it to worsen before you take action. By then it may already be too late.

Anti- atherosclerotic and anti- inflammatory actions of sesame oil. Chandrakala Aluganti Narasimhulu, Krithika Selvarajan, Dmitry Litvinov, Sampath Parthasarathy. Journal of Medicinal Food 2. Atherosclerosis, a major form of cardiovascular disease, has now been recognized as a chronic inflammatory disease. Nonpharmacological means of treating chronic diseases have gained attention recently. We previously reported that sesame oil has anti- atherosclerotic properties. In this study, we have determined the mechanisms by which sesame oil might modulate atherosclerosis by identifying genes and inflammatory markers. Low- density lipoprotein receptor knockout (LDLR(- /- )) female mice were fed with either an atherogenic diet or an atherogenic diet reformulated with sesame oil (sesame oil diet). Plasma lipids and atherosclerotic lesions were quantified after 3 months of feeding. Plasma samples were used for cytokine analysis. RNA was extracted from the liver tissue and used for global gene arrays. The sesame oil diet significantly reduced atherosclerotic lesions, plasma cholesterol, triglyceride, and LDL cholesterol levels in LDLR(- /- ) mice. Plasma inflammatory cytokines, such as MCP- 1, RANTES, IL- 1. Gene array analysis showed that sesame oil induced many genes, including ABCA1, ABCA2, APOE, LCAT, and CYP7. A1, which are involved in cholesterol metabolism and reverse cholesterol transport. In conclusion, our studies suggest that a sesame oil- enriched diet could be an effective nonpharmacological treatment for atherosclerosis by controlling inflammation and regulating lipid metabolism. If you’re trying to use the label to eat a healthy diet, that notation might be confusing. Does this mean that you are supposed to eat 2,0. Or is there a better way to use the information? What Is a 2,0. 00- Calorie Diet? In order to provide the most helpful nutritional data to consumers, the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) uses a 2,0. Nutrition Facts label that provides information about Daily Values and Percent Daily Value (%DV). It is not a recommendation to eat 2,0. It is also not meant to imply to that a 2,0. So why does the FDA use the 2,0. Many average American eaters will have a daily caloric intake in that approximate range. By using that figure, the nutritional information provided is likely to be useful for a wide audience. For example: A moderately active 3. A lightly active 4. A petite, very active 2. A tall, sedentary 7. Your unique daily calorie needs are based on your body size, your weight goals, and your activity level. A person who is trying to lose or gain weight would adjust their daily caloric intake to reach their specific health goals. To find out how many calories you should consume each day, you can do some simple math or use an online calorie calculator. Many weight loss plans are based on a 1,2. Calorie Diet Breakdown. A diet that provides 2,0. But the actual diet breakdown is more reasonable than you might imagine. A sample meal plan might look like this: Breakfast (approximately 5. Snack (1. 00 calories)Lunch (approximately 6. Turkey sandwich on rye bread with mayonnaise. Carrot and celery sticks with hummus. One medium chocolate chip cookie. One glass of 2% milk. Snack (1. 00 calories)Dinner (6. Grilled salmon (4 ounces) with lemon. Small baked potato with butter. Steamed broccoli. One half cup of vanilla ice cream. What Are Daily Values? Daily Values or DVs are nutrient intake recommendations that are based on the advice of national health experts. Based on the DV information, a person who eats 2,0. Keep in mind that these values are recommendations and not a specific prescription for good health or proper eating. A registered dietitian or health professional can provide nutritional recommendations to meet your specific health needs. Also, pregnant women and children have different recommended values for macronutrients, vitamins, and minerals. What Is Percent Daily Value? Percent Daily Value (%DV or % Daily Value) tells you how much a food contributes to your total recommended intake of a given nutrient. Percent Daily Values are listed in a column on the right side of the Nutrition Facts Label. You can use % Daily Value figures to see if you are getting the recommended intake of important nutrients like fat, protein, calcium and fiber. You can also use the data to make sure you are not getting too much of certain nutrients that should be limited like saturated fat or cholesterol. For each nutrient, the label lists the number of grams or milligrams that a single serving of that food provides. This information is listed in a column on the left side of the label. For example, you might look on the label of your favorite snack and see that it provides two grams of saturated fat. But on the right side of the label you’ll see a percent. It describes how that food contributes to your recommended intake of that nutrient, if you eat a 2,0. If you eat 2,0. 00 calories per day, the Daily Value for saturated fat is 2. Since your favorite snack provides 2 grams of saturated fat, it would provide 1. You would see “1. Daily Value” column. Different Ways to Use Percent Daily Value. What if you don’t eat 2,0. Is the Percent Daily Value information useless? The FDA provides suggestions about helpful ways to use Percent Daily Values and other nutritional information no matter how many calories you consume. You can use the information to: Make food comparisons. If you are trying to choose between a few different brands or products, you can compare the labels to see how each product will contribute to your daily nutritional needs. Just be sure to compare foods with similar serving sizes. Check the serving size at the top of the Nutrition Facts label. Then check the % Daily Value column to see which food contributes more of the nutrients you need and less of the nutrients you don’t. Verify claims on food packages. You might see a nutritional claim on the front of a food package that sounds appealing. It’s smart to verify those claims by checking the Nutrition Facts label. If the food you’re looking at provides 2. You can also verify claims about nutrients. Foods that provide 5 percent DV of a particular nutrient are considered to be low and those that provide 2. DV or more are considered to be high. For example, if your favorite cereal advertises that it is a good source of fiber, you can check the Percent Daily Value on the Nutrition Facts label to see if it is a high fiber food or a low fiber food. If the % Daily Value listed for fiber is 2. Make food- trade- offs to improve your diet. As you become more comfortable using the Percent Daily Value on the Nutrition Facts label, you can scan it quickly to trade low nutrient foods for higher nutrient foods. If you are trying to cut back on your salt intake, for example, you can check the % DV of comparable foods and choose the one with the lowest percent listed in the row for sodium. Or if you are trying to increase your protein intake, you can look for foods that have a higher percent listed for protein. Do You Eat a 2,0. Calorie Diet? Many smart consumers and healthy eaters don’t know how many calories they consume each day. If you’re not a big eater, you might eat 1,5. So you may not know how—or if—you should use the Daily Values and Percent Daily Values listed on the Nutrition Facts Label. If you are trying to lose weight or improve your diet, you may find it helpful to keep a food diary for a week or more to get your number. Either fill out a paper journal, use a smartphone app or website to count your calories. After a week or so of counting calories, you should have a good estimate of your daily calorie intake. Once you have your number you can adjust it to meet your goals and use the Nutrition Facts label to evaluate how each food contributes to your daily plan. Remember, the information provided on the Nutrition Facts label is based on general guidelines. Using it can help you to eat a well- rounded diet for good health.
